Convince your teacher that you should be allowed an extra 15 minutes of recess!

The recess period is a break in between the tedious schedule of a school in which students eat their lunch and enjoy playing and talking with their friends. Recess is crucial for schools. It relaxes students and reduces the burden of studies for a short while. There are several benefits of recess. It improves the physical activity among the students and allows them to socialise with their friends. Usually, the break takes place under the guidance of teachers and school staff.

My name is ABC, and I believe that students should be allowed an extra 15 minutes of recess in school. In today’s rapid world, students experience a lot of educational burden from their parents as well as their teachers. Recess allows us a decent break to enjoy and connect with our peers. However, the duration of the break is most often limited to 30 minutes, which does not serve its purpose. The academic growth of children is indeed crucial, but physical activities and brain development of children are some other factors that should be addressed with care in schools.

Studying for long and stretched periods reduces the efficiency and productivity of the children. An average student spends around 8 - 10 hours in school, making breaks imperative for them. Not only children but teachers also get tired after teaching for long hours. Fifteen extra minutes of break can help children in multiple ways.

For example:

  1. Recess refreshes a child’s brain and helps improve their focus on studies. A stretched recess will be beneficial for their academic performance in the long term.

  2. Many students are shy in classrooms and are not able to talk with their classmates. Recess allows them to interact and socialise with fellow students.

  3. In classrooms, teachers are present to watch over the students, which creates a strict environment. But recess period is free and refreshing for children.

Even though academic excellence is crucial, children learn most of the other soft skills in their schools like communication, confidence, etc. I believe recess can additionally be helpful in the cognitive development of children in school. If students do not get ample resting breaks between their studying schedules, they tend to get unproductive, stressed, bored, and lazy in their studies. To avoid such situations, teachers should allow 15 extra minutes of recess as it would not only refresh them but also help them be more productive in academics.
